There are three different methods of multi-factor authentication (MFA) supported by Portal. The first time you sign into Portal, you will be asked to choose your preferred authentication method, and once configured this method will be used during each subsequent sign-in.
Authentication is performed by approving a request for authentication sent to an app installed on your smartphone.
Setup
-
Select your smartphone's platform: Either "iPhone" or "Android". You will be provided with the correct link for your device to download the Okta Verify app. Ensure you have downloaded and installed the app on your smartphone and click "Next".
-
Portal will display a QR code. Open the Okta Verify app and tap "Add Account", then select "Organization" as the account type.
-
When prompted, tap "Yes, Ready to Scan".
-
Scan the code with your smartphone's camera and a 6-digit code will be displayed on your phone's screen. Click "Next" to continue, and you will displayed a success message to confirm the authentication was configured correctly.
Signing in with Okta Verify
Once you have entered your username, click the "Send Push" button to send a notification to your smartphone. Approve the request in the Okta Verify app to continue the sign in process.
Note: Ticking "Send push automatically" in Portal will mean the notification will be sent to your phone immediately the next time you sign in, without the need for you to click the "Send Push" button.
Those who have used our legacy platform MyST will be most familiar with this authentication method, as many users needed to use this same process to sign in to MyST.
